Description :
The Progereal-Finareal Group, in partnership with Wilmotte & Associés SA architecture firm and landscape architect Jean Mus, has been awarded the commission to create a 5* spa hotel by the City of Menton. Hotel management will be entrusted to the Pinelli family (already operating La Villa, a luxury establishment in Corsica).
The hotel will be equipped with first-rate facilities, including a 140-person convention centre, a spa/balneotherapy/fitness centre, and a restaurant, open to the guests of other Menton-area establishments. The site is in the Garavan district, Menton. The landscape is extremely evocative, with the Mediterranean to the south and the foothills of the Alps to the north.
The design's key feature is its environmentally-friendly approach on such a prestigious site. The hotel's landscaping responds to and extends the topography of the Parc de Pian; it descends down to the sea and invites guests and visitors to enjoy extraordinary views from a series of terraces.
At the garden floor, the conference centre and spa open out to the lemon gardens, a place ripe for exploring tastes and well-being. The ground floor is permeable and flexible, a lively and vibrant place, day and night. These two floors contain the public spaces, reception, restaurants, and wellness areas, as well as the conference area. The hotel rooms are on the five upper floors, with the "garden" rooms on the garden-floor level. The building uses extremely simple materials: whitewash and glass. The olive wall is a massive white wall like all the other heavy elements of the building. To respect the environment, it is imperative to create a symbiosis between the surrounding vegetation and that of the new project, a further affirmation of the underlying influence of the Menton landscape. The hotel vegetation will also play a key role in defining the project's identity. 59 citrus trees have been planted as well as numerous other local species typical to the area. This will allow for the creation of an entire ecosystem. It is important to note that the vegetation actually improves water absorption and will not require any watering. The project parti is simple yet contemporary, and is based on a dialogue between the architectural lines of the hotel and the natural curves of the landscape. A sizeable investment, this project is also a significant contribution to contemporary architecture.
